about

The oldest recording on this album, I captured this improvised performance on my 11-string acoustic guitar in 2013. I used to love improvising pieces in this tuning on this 11-string. This one seemed like a complete song, and a perfect reflective but resolute and delightful ending to an album. My favourite thing is how one of the strings are resonating in the body of the guitar in the key of the song, can't escape the drone. The guitar could stand alone by itself, but I experimented with adding other elements to it, and loved it, so I left them in and it's actually pretty cute. I always leave in so-called "mistakes" but they are so obvious in this piece towards the end, which is fitting for an album about the strength in vulnerability, but also it's improvised so isn't the whole process an exercise in letting go and being okay with your imperfections? Hopefully this piece can also act as a sort of debrief or cleanse to take you out of the album more gently.
